Did you see the Great man play?
I was just watching the news and I heard Nick Owen say on BBC news that he played in a celeb match before the 1987 FA Cup Final and that Bobby Moore played in it.

So I emailed them to confirm and he kindly has just emailed me a picture, he was playing in the Cov team.

May seem silly but I am so happy to know that I see him play even if I don't remember it!

Wish it had been in a West Ham shirt but better than nothing.

RIP Bobby

Re: Did you see the Great man play?
Watched him loads of times for us, even got to shake his hand (& Hurst's) when we went to old Wembley and England were playing N.Ireland.

In those days the players walked to the inside of the ground from the coach parking space signing autographs for fans etc.

No fuckin selfies in those days, no fucking mobile phones of course - the missus could never track you - perfect.

Met him a couple of times later on when he was managing Southend (used to train near the Trinity boxing club)... drove past in a big Jag and gave us a wave outside our old wool shop me Mum had... his son (Dean) used to run the Bell in Southend (on the A127)... loved a lock in... nice fella but always on the sauce... I think the pub game was not for him !!

1968 as a 10 years old.
Over the park all you wanted to be was Bobby Moore so after being a couple of yards from him after lining up from 8.am to get right behind the south bank goal post as he walked across to defend it and put him hand on it I was nearly sick with excitement.
He was so bloody neatly turned out just like the shoot magazine pictures of him I had on my bedroom wall.

I can still picture it now ! and still get the same excitement.

What was the issue over him wearing advertising on his boots in the 75 final or did I dream that?

He had a shop near the ground that became a greengrocers.

Yup his sports shop... me old Man popped down with us on our 5th or 6th Birthday to get us a claret and blue (piping) tracksuit... Mooro served us and had a chat with me old Man (Me Dad and Mum knew Mooro's parents well) I just stood there like a div...gave us a sew on badge (those days was no badges on shirts etc). Can remember it like it was yesterday

No, I lived round the corner from his house in Glenwood Gardens, between Gants Hill and Barkingside.

Saw most of his home games from 1964 til he left us for Fulham.Never seen anyone since who comes close to having the class he did.

Re: Did you see the Great man play?
Saw him play many times - remember one particular night at home against Spurs - Greaves and Gilzean were the front pairing for them in those days - great atmosphere and when Mooro pushed forward from defence with the ball you could feel the excitement in the ground building up. Never been another like him.

Fuck me, just had a thought about that

The Booby Moore sports shop, a converted house to the left opposite the main entrance in Green St, if that became a greengrocer then that is the place that became a florist I bought my floral tribute from the morning after the night before that I heard he had passed - never joined the dots on that

Many times in the 1960's. I also remember him playing for England as a young player in the 1962 World Cup in Chile.

had a photo of Bobby and his wife, sitting at a table with my mum and dad in a club from years ago.

My ol' ma said he was a bit flash.

I just want to take issue with you about your claim that Bobby Moore gobbed in Tosh Chamberlains eye.
Having watched Bobby play in at least 250 games and spoken to him on a number of occasions, I can categorically state that he would never have done such a thing. It would have been totally out of character.
And for you to come on this site to tarnish his good name by making up such garbage is disgusting.

BAN THIS CUNT.

I remember watching the 75 Cup Final as an 8 year old.
My old man took me to Fulham a couple of years later to watch his last but one league game (last in London) against Orient.

Best and Marsh were great as well. One of my first games ever. My dad, uncle Harry and me had tickets for QPR-Man Utd but that got postponed so we over to the cottage.

Re Madeeasy.
It was actually a part of the Cup Final build up on ITV. Jimmy Tarbuck captained one team (he was a drinking pal of Moore hence the invitation) that played in Coventry kit.
David Frost team played in Spurs kit. Daley Thompson scored a couple of decent goals and looked like he would've been a useful footballer. It's probably on YouTube
Ray Winstone got a runout as I recall.

Including against Luton in the FA Cup when they put Bobby out.

My hatred of Luton is not irrational

The best player ever to play for West Ham by a mile. It's just a shame the way he left and how little respect he got when playing on the opposite side at Wembley.

Re: Did you see the Great man play?
Blimey, makes me feel young reading this

Not that young though as I too saw him and here is a thing, in the days pre line up on the pitch the teams used to just come out of the tunnel, no shit

You always knew when we were coming as the ball came first in the air looping from the west side, Bobby volley ball style, would under arm bat it out - one sight of that and the cheer went up, the players lead by the man would then appear between the standing lower west side terrace

Also as someone else said, he had an edge, when his dander was up he could look after himself, funny thing was, the crowd knew it too, often before the source of his ire did and then wallop, ever so slightly late, perfect timing as always, ball first then a barrel chest or oxen thigh would hit home.

Youngsters be in no doubt, he could really play that man, really play and would be utterly priceless in today's game of footballing CB's

Anyone know why he would have played in a cov side before the cup final that year?
